Ghana Beaches are scattered along a 540 Km long stunning coastline. Most of them are underdeveloped and look like paradise waiting for the visitors to explore them.
I’ll mention the best of the beaches of Ghana, starting with the most famous beach in the capital.
Ghana Beaches are a pleasant surprise to visitors
Ghana, a nation on West Africa’s Gulf of Guinea, is known for diverse wildlife, old forts and secluded beaches. The Capital of Ghana, and the country’s largest city is Accra an important commercial, manufacturing, and communications center.
It is the site of an international airport Accra remained the capital city, when in 1957 the British Gold Coast Colony.
Labadi Beach in Accra the Capital of Ghana
It is a public beach located in Labadi, at the western section of Accra with a length of 3 Km. There is an entrance fee to enter the beach, but it is worth the cost.
This is a wide beach with many facilities for Frisbee, football and beach volleyball. Being in the capital it is very popular with locals, that flock to this beach during weekends
This beach is lined with bars, restaurants and snack bars as well as all facilities like umbrellas and changing rooms.
Kokrobite Beach with scenic hills and clear waters
Located in Langma in 27 Km west of Accra, this is a 30 Km long beach. Since it is far from the capital it is less frequented by tourists; but if you get there you’ll be welcomed by scenic views of the hills and the crystal clear waters
This beach has great surf, so if you decide to do it, there are boards for rent at the village. There are some facilities like changing rooms and restaurants, adequate enough for tourists.
In the evening it gets a party atmosphere with bonfire celebrations and Reggae music, complete with drumming, singing and dancing.
Ada Beach on the estuary of the Volta River
Also called plain Ada Beach, is located 100 Km east of Accra. This is actually a coastal village near the Lome Road. It is an ideal beach for many Water sports as fishing and skiing and with a Marina nearby, also great for yachting.
Located at the estuary of the Volta River, it is an area with a lovely scenic beauty. Thee some endangered and protected areas of marine turtles that can be found here.
Ada Foah is the center of the Dangme East District with its beaches, estuary and other attractions. There is a ferry and boat harbor at the riverside where boats can be rented for a cruise around the islands.
Ada is also home to Aziza Island, a private island accessible only by boat which hosts luxurious weddings.
Located east of Accra, where the Volta River flows into the Atlantic Ocean, near Ada, it is beach for nature lovers.
It is a breeding ground for sea turtles and a sanctuary for estuarine birds.
This is an isolated beach west of Accra. The town is perched on a hillside and slopes down to two sandy beaches. It is located near the fishing village of Senya Beraku, which is home to the Fort of Good Hope.
The beaches of Elmina are among the best in the whole West Africa. They are lined by palms over wide areas of sandy beaches. From here you have a view of old St George’s Castle. This beach is alone waiting just for you.
It is one of the most pristine and unspoiled beaches in Ghana. You may rent your surfing board from the guesthouse on site, Ellis Hideout. The beach is clean as opposed to others nearby.
Gomoa Fetteh Beach in Central Ghana
Gomoa Fetteh is a coastal town in Central Ghana, located off Accra Winneba highway. Two of Ghana's most popular beach resorts are located at Gomoa Fetteh.
Tills – This is a hotel and restaurant and is close enough to Accra to enjoy for day use at a modest price. It is less than two hours' drive from Accra
White Sands – This is the complete opposite of Tills; expensive and exclusive, it attracts the affluent Accra crowd. It has three restaurants and a bar and is separated from the mainland by a saltwater lagoon.
Busua Beach west of Takoradi in Western Ghana
It is located in Western Ghana about 45 Km west of Takoradi, about five and a half hours drive from Accra. It is between Bustre and Dixcove.
The waters are calm and the clean beaches stretch for several Km and is almost never crowded. The beauty here lies in the amazing sands and the waters that are safe for swimming and relaxing.
If you are a surfer or just want to try it out this one of the hotspots for this sport; there is even a Black Star Surf Club at the beach which hires boards and gives lessons.

Exotic Ankobra Beach in Western Ghana
Both of these spectacular beaches are located near the coastal village of Axim, a couple of hours west of Takoradi. If what you want is solitude on a secluded palm lined beach, this is the place.
Located near Busua, this beach is secluded and complete with camping facilities, bungalows for rent, showers, toilets and water sports facilities. The beach features several restaurants, where tourists can sample fresh seafood and other local cuisine.
Located west of Takoradi it is sheltered on a natural bay. It is a rocky beach. Axim is the largest town on the coast west of Takoradi, and the settlement of approximately 10,000 people. It has a good infrastructure for tourism.
